Are Ready.Steady.Home kit homes and granny flats Class 1a compliant?

Yes. Every design is engineered and certified to Class 1a of the National Construction Code — the same classification as any permanent house. That's what lets it be approved as a dwelling, connected to services, insured and financed, rather than treated as a relocatable or temporary structure.

Australian Made?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Every home is built in our own Sydney facility by our own trades, to Australian Standards, using locally sourced materials wherever possible. Nothing arrives as a finished box shipped in from overseas.

Question 3

Council Approved?

Accepted Answer

Every home is approved before it is built — either by a private certifier under Complying Development (CDC) or by your council under a Development Application (DA). We prepare the drawings, check your block against the rules, and lodge the application for you.

Modify Designs?

Accepted Answer

You choose cladding, kitchen, bathroom and colour selections, and a mirror-image plan costs nothing. The structural layout of each design stays fixed — that is exactly what lets us hold both the fixed price and the 8 week program. Structural changes are possible, quoted as a custom project.

BASIX / Energy Rating?

Every NSW home needs a BASIX certificate and we prepare yours as part of the approval. Our standard build — double glazing, insulation above code minimum, LED lighting throughout — comfortably meets BASIX targets across Sydney without bolt-on extras.

Question 6

Slab or Raised Foundation?

Accepted Answer

Both. A concrete slab suits flat and gently graded blocks; an engineered piered or steel sub-floor suits slope, fall and restricted access. Your block decides — we confirm it at the free site assessment and the cost is locked into your contract either way.

Question 7

Timber or Steel Frames?

Accepted Answer

Both are available. Our standard is engineered timber framing — it performs well thermally and is easy to fix to. Steel is available where termite exposure, span or a specific engineering requirement calls for it. Either way the frame is engineer-certified to your site's wind and soil classification.

Question 8

Cyclone Rated?

Accepted Answer

Our homes are engineered to the wind classification of the site they are going to. Sydney and greater NSW blocks are typically N1–N3, which is our standard specification. Higher wind and cyclonic ratings can be engineered on request — tell us the location and we will confirm what is required.

Question 9

What is a flatpack kit home?

Accepted Answer

A flatpack kit is a pile of materials — frames, cladding and fixings — dropped on your block for you, or a builder you have to find, to assemble. Ready.Steady.Home does not work that way. Your home is built complete in our factory and delivered finished, so there is no kit to assemble and no second builder to engage.

Question 10

How far will you deliver to? I live in Rockhampton, will you deliver to Rockhampton?

Our fixed prices and the 8 week program cover Sydney and greater NSW, where our facility and install crews are based. Rockhampton sits well outside that service area, so we would rather say so up front than quote a number we cannot stand behind. If you are set on one of our designs, call us and we will be straight with you about whether it is workable.

Question 11

How long will it take my kit home to arrive?

8 weeks from signed contract to keys — and that is not just transport. Your home is built in our facility while your block is prepared, so the two programs run in parallel. Delivery itself is a single day.

Question 12

What is the delivery charge to my site?

Accepted Answer

Delivery and craneage are quoted for your specific block, never guessed at. On most Sydney blocks they sit inside the $25–45k of site costs; tight access needing a crane over the house adds roughly $8–15k. The exact figure is confirmed at the free site assessment, then fixed in the contract.

How do kit homes arrive on site?

On a truck, complete. Your home travels as finished modules — walls, roof, kitchen, bathrooms and flooring already in — and is lifted onto the prepared footings by crane. Weather-tight and locked up the same day it lands.

Question 14

Are the walls all prefabricated (framing, insulation, services roughed in, plasterboard, etc) and they are simply erected onto the slab?

We go further than panels. Nothing is erected on your block: the home arrives as a complete structure with framing, insulation, wiring, plumbing, plasterboard, paint and full fit-out already finished and inspected indoors. On site it is set down, connected and certified.

Question 15

How far will you deliver to? I live in Darwin, will you deliver to Darwin?

Same honest answer as Rockhampton: our service area is Sydney and greater NSW. Darwin is a long way outside it, and transport at that distance would undo the price and program we promise.

Question 16

Does Ready.Steady.Home kit homes come with engineering reports?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Every home is supplied with engineer-certified structural documentation for your specific site — footing design to your soil classification, frame and tie-down to your wind rating — plus the certificates your certifier needs to approve and sign off the build.

Can you supply kit home materials to a higher BAL (Bushfire Attack Level) rating?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Mapped bushfire land is common across outer Sydney. Our homes are specified from BAL-12.5 through BAL-29 as standard, and higher by assessment. The site check confirms your rating and any upgrade cost — fixed before you sign, like everything else.

Can you supply kit home materials to a higher wind rating?

Yes. Frame, tie-downs, glazing and roof fixings are all engineered to your site's wind classification. N1–N3 covers most of NSW and is our standard; higher ratings are engineered on request.

What options do I have in the construction process?

Accepted Answer

One, deliberately: we build it, you get the keys. Ready.Steady.Home will deliver completed homes only — approvals, factory build, delivery, install and certification under a single contract. We won't sell a kit for you to project-manage, because that is exactly where budgets and timelines usually come apart. None of this can be contracted until our registration is issued.

Question 20

What does lock up stage mean?

In a conventional build, lock-up is the point where the shell, roof, external doors and windows are on and the site can be locked — with all the fit-out still ahead of you. Our homes reach lock-up inside the factory, in the first weeks, and arrive on your block well past it: finished.

Question 21

Can your kit home be built on a slab or floor system?

Both. Slab on ground for flat blocks; an engineered piered sub-floor where there is slope, fall or restricted access. Your block decides, we confirm at the site assessment, and the price is fixed either way.

Question 22

What is your payment process?

Accepted Answer

There isn't one yet, and that's the point: until our NSW builder registration is issued we can't take a deposit or any payment from you. Registering your interest costs nothing and commits you to nothing. Once we're registered, the deposit is capped at 10% under NSW law and progress payments are tied to defined stages.

You do not have to wait for the post: every design, floor plan, inclusion and fixed price is published on this site, and the price guide downloads instantly as a PDF. If you would still like a printed pack mailed out, ask and we will send one.

How long does it take to assemble a kit home to completion?

Accepted Answer

There is no assembly at your end. Contract to keys is 8 weeks, of which the works at your place — footings, set-down, connections and certification — take days, not months. You are not living beside a building site for half a year.

Question 25

Which is cheaper; concrete slabs or stumps?

Accepted Answer

On a flat block a slab is usually cheaper and it is what we would recommend. Once there is real fall, piers or stumps often win, because levelling a sloping block with fill and retaining costs more than simply raising the floor. We price the option your block actually needs, not the one that sounds cheapest on the phone.

Is there a set term for a Handypay loan period?

Finance terms come from your lender, not from us, so the term depends on the product and what you are approved for. We are not tied to a single financier — we will put you in touch with brokers who understand off-site construction and staged payments, and you choose what suits.

How much does assembly cost?

Nothing extra. Delivery, craneage, install and connections sit inside the site-costs figure we quote for your block, and your home is put together by our own crew — not by you, and not by a builder you have to find. The number you sign is the number you pay.
